Our History
Back in late November 2019, a group of Rugbytots riders swapped the rugby field for the sand dunes, taking on a two-day fat-bike adventure along one of South Africa’s most beautiful stretches of coastline. Organised in partnership with Red Cherry Adventures, the Fat Attack Beach Ride set off from the Arniston Hotel in the Western Cape, roughly 200km from Cape Town, in support of a cause close to the heart of every rugby family.
Riding for the Players’ Fund
Every kilometre ridden across the dunes was in support of the Chris Burger Petro Jackson Players’ Fund, the Springboks’ official charity, which cares for rugby players who have suffered catastrophic injury on the field. With a fundraising goal of R10,000, the ride was a small but meaningful way for our Rugbytots community to give back to a sport that has given so much to our children.
Two Days on the Sand
The Fat Attack Beach Ride is no ordinary bike ride. Riders take on wide-tyre fat-bikes built to handle soft, shifting sand, weaving along pristine beaches and over coastal dunes rather than tar roads. It is tough, it is sandy, and by the end of two days everyone’s legs know about it, but the sense of achievement, and the camaraderie built along the way, is what riders remember most.
The Fat Attack Beach Ride was about far more than kilometres covered. It was Rugbytots coaches, parents, and friends coming together to support the players who form the backbone of our game, proof that the same spirit of teamwork and heart we bring to every session extends well beyond the mat.
