Squeals of delight and the patter of nimble feet across the rugby field sounded across Umhlali Preparatory school field at the first Rugbytots clinic on Saturday.
The Rugbytots franchise was founded by Max Webb 2006 in the UK, kicked off in South Africa by Steed Richardson back in 2012 and has been brought to the Dolphin Coast by Empangeni resident, Michael aka ‘Tikes’ Odell.
Coach Tikes said he hopes to not only pass on the love of the game to the children but that his main aim was to teach them the value of working as a team.
“The kids have a ball, as the focus of Rugbytots is not only on rugby but on education. We play fun games where we test colours, shapes and numbers.”
The playgroups are divided into three age groupings:
- 2 to 3.5
- 3.5 to 5
- 5 to 7
